Array Classic: ARRAYCLASSIC

Keyboard: _ARRAYCLASSIC or -ARRAY for command line version

Creates multiple copies of entities in one of two symmetrical patterns: rectangular (rows and columns) or polar (circular). Similar to the 3D Array command, except that entities are arrayed in two-dimensional space.

Note that you can also create a linear array of copied entities using the Copy command.

DIALOG BOX OPTIONS

Rectangular Array or Polar Array Select which kind of array to create:

  • Rectangular array: Entities are arrayed in a rectangular pattern in the positive direction of the x- and y-axis.
  • Polar array: A polar array copies entities in a circumference around a center point that you specify; the entities can be rotated (all facing the center point) or not.

Select Entities Click () to switch to the drawing temporarily and select one or more entities that you want to array. When you are done selecting entities, press Enter to return to the Array dialog box.

Associative Mark to create a new array as a set of associative entities.

OPTIONS FOR RECTANGULAR ARRAYS

Rows Enter the number of rows you want in the array. A rectangular array must have at least two rows or two columns.

Columns Enter the number of columns you want in the array. A rectangular array must have at least two rows or two columns.

Row Offset Enter the amount of vertical space you want between each row in the array. You can also click () to specify in the drawing both the row and column offsets or click () (for Row Offset) to specify only the row offset.

Column Offset Enter the amount of horizontal space you want between each column in the array. You can also click () to specify in the drawing both the row and column offsets or click () (for Column Offset) to specify only the column offset.

NOTE If either the row or column offset is zero, the program does not draw entities in that direction, even if you specify the number of entities to draw. If the row and column offsets are both zero, the program does not draw an array at all.

Angle of Array Enter the angle at which to rotate the array. Or, click () to specify the angle in the drawing.

Preview Click to preview the array in the drawing (only available after entities are selected for the array). While previewing the array, choose Close to cancel creation of the array, choose Modify to return to the Array dialog box to make changes to the array, or press Enter to create the array.

OPTIONS FOR POLAR ARRAYS

Center Point Specify the X and Y coordinates for the center point around which you want the entities arrayed. Or, you can click () to switch to the drawing temporarily and select the center point.

Method Select how to create an array using a combination of two of the following: total number of items to produce in the array, angle the array will fill, and the angle between items.

Total Number of Items Enter the number of items to create in the array, including one for the original selection set.

Angle to Fill Enter the angle the array will fill. Or, you can click () to switch to the drawing temporarily and select the angle to fill. The default setting for the angle is a full circle, 360 degrees. Positive values create the array in a counterclockwise direction; negative values create the array in a clockwise direction. The polar array begins at 0 degrees (default = east).

Angle Between Items Enter the degree of the angle between the items arrayed. Or, you can click () to switch to the drawing temporarily and select the angle between items.

Rotate Items as Copied To automatically rotate items as they are arrayed, mark this check box. To retain the original orientation of each copy as it is arrayed, unmark the check box.

More/Less Click to show additional options for polar arrays.

Set to Entity's Default To use the entity's default base point for the array, mark this check box. Unmark this check box to specify a different entity base point to use when creating the array.

Base Point Enter a new entity base point to use for the array (available only if Set to Entity's Default is not marked). Or, click () to select the base point in the drawing.

Preview Click to preview the array in the drawing (only available after entities are selected for the array). While previewing the array, choose Close to cancel creation of the array, choose Modify to return to the Array dialog box to make changes to the array, or press Accept to create the array.
