Direct distance entry

CADdirect lets you quickly enter distances using the direct distance entry method. It's a lot simpler than it sounds; when placing an entity, just drag your cursor in the direction you want to draw and type in the distance you want the entity to be. This is especially efficient when you have Orthogonal lock on or you are drawing at a set angle.

To use the direct distance entry method

  1. Use a 2D drawing command, such as Line, by doing one of the following:
    • Choose Insert > Line.
    • On the Draw toolbar, click the Line tool ().
    • Type line, and then press Enter.
  2. Specify the start point, then stretch the line in the direction you want to draw.
    3. Use the Orthogonal lock to draw orthogonal lines, or hold down the SHIFT key while you draw to create orthogonal lines.
  3. Type a distance, such as 25. This draws a line 25 units in the direction you dragged the element end in the previous step.
  4. In the prompt box, choose Done to complete the command.
