Advanced PDF Options dialog box

Use this dialog box to specify additional options for exporting or publishing to a .pdf file.

PDF files allow you to distribute your drawing to others for viewing in Adobe® Acrobat® Reader®, which is free software that users can download. PDF files can also be viewed, reviewed, and edited in Adobe Acrobat.

This dialog box opens when you click Advanced Options in the Export to PDF dialog box or PDF Publish Options dialog box.

DIALOG BOX OPTIONS

Vectors Enter the resolution in dots per inch for hatches that are exported as vectors. The higher the number, the better the image quality but the larger the exported file size.

Hatches Enter the resolution in dots per inch for hatches that are exported to bitmaps (BMP). The higher the number, the better the image quality but the larger the exported file size.

Color Images Enter the resolution in dots per inch for exported color and grayscale images. The higher the number, the better the image quality but the larger the exported file size.

Monochrome Images Enter the resolution in dots per inch for exported monochrome images. The higher the number, the better the image quality but the larger the exported file size.

TrueType as Geometry Click to export TrueType font text as geometry instead of text.

SHX Text as Geometry Click to export SHX font text as geometry instead of text.

Searchable Text Click to allow searching of text in the output .pdf file (available only if TrueType and/or SHX text is exported as geometry).

Archival Format (PDF/A) Choose whether to save the .pdf file in PDF/A format, which is designed for long-term archival preservation of .pdf files. PDF/A format excludes all features that can be dangerous for long-term document storage (for example font linking, encryption, etc.). Choose one of the following:

  • None Does not save the .pdf file in PDF/A format.
  • PDF/A-1b Saves the .pdf file for archival in PDF/A-1b format.
  • PDF/A-2b Saves the .pdf file for archival in PDF/A-2b format (recommended for archival files).

Allow Incremental File Loading Click to allow the exported .pdf file to be processed incrementally. This allows for quick downloading, navigation, font loading, and response to user actions, which is especially helpful when working with large .pdf files on the Internet.

Hexadecimal Format (2x File Size) Click to write data in hexadecimal format, allowing the output .pdf file to be explored with hex-editors. Note that turning on this option doubles the size of the output .pdf file.

Line Merge Control Choose how to determine the colors of lines that cross over each other:

  • Lines Overwrite Retains the colors of lines that cross over each other. The visible color is of the line that was most recently added to the drawing.
  • Lines Merge Merges the colors of lines that cross over each other.

Remove Hidden Lines Click to use software vector hidden-line removal (HLR) to delete hidden lines during the export process for corresponding viewports.

Optimize Simple Geometry Click to optimize geometry processing, for example, save arcs as Bezier curves instead of an enumeration of lines, save separated segments with equal ends and equal attributes as one polyline, and save rectangles as rectangles instead of four lines.

Crop Invisible Parts of Images Click to export only the visible part of images. If an image is cropped or clipped, only the visible parts will be exported. If turned off, the full image is exported.

Ignore Invisible Viewport Borders Click to include all content inside a viewport that has invisible borders. If a viewport border is invisible, the viewport's content is not cropped.

Include Measurement Data Click to include measurement data in the exported .pdf file. This option ensures that measurements from an existing drawing are accurate in the exported .pdf file even when taking page size into account.

Solid Fills Select how to export solid hatches:

  • Bitmap Export — Exports solid hatches as a bitmap picture. The result of exporting a hatch as a bitmap looks smoother than as a vectorizer and often has a smaller output file size. The output file size strongly depends on the DPI (Dots Per Inch) resolution.
  • Vectorizer — Divides solid hatches into many triangles; each can contain its own color. This leads to a larger output file size and decreases the quality of the hatch.
  • PDF Paths — (Recommended) Exports only the outer loop of solid hatches and then fills the loops with the appropriate color. Creates a smaller .pdf file size than other methods and avoids distortion of graphical elements.

Patterns Select how to export hatch patterns other than solid hatches:

  • Bitmap Export — Exports other hatches as a bitmap picture. The result of exporting a hatch as a bitmap looks smoother than as a vectorizer and often has a smaller output file size. The output file size strongly depends on the DPI (Dots Per Inch) resolution specified in Hatches.
  • Vectorizer — Divides other hatches into many triangles; each can contain its own color. This leads to a larger output file size and decreases the quality of the hatch.

Gradients Select how to export gradient hatches:

  • Bitmap Export — Exports gradient hatches as a bitmap picture. The result of exporting a hatch as a bitmap looks smoother than as a vectorizer and often has a smaller output file size. The output file size strongly depends on the DPI (Dots Per Inch) resolution specified in Hatches.
  • Vectorizer — Divides gradient hatches into many triangles; each can contain its own color. This leads to a larger output file size and decreases the quality of the hatch.

Data Compression Click to use compression to reduce the file size of the exported .pdf file.

Image Compression Click to apply additional compression to images using a DCT compression algorithm which can significantly reduce the size of exported .pdf files.

Image Quality Move the slider or enter the percentage of image compression. The higher the number, the better the quality but the larger the exported file size. This option is available only if Image Compression is turned on.
