Subject: Setting the current layer

When you create new entities, they are drawn on the current layer. To draw new enti­ties on a different layer, you must first make that layer the current layer.  

To make a layer current

   1   Do one of the following to choose Explore Layers ():

   On the ribbon, choose Home > Explore Layers (in Layers) or choose Tools > Layers (in Explorer).

   On the menu, choose Format > Explore Layers or choose Tools > Explorer > Explore Layers.

   On the Explorer toolbar, click the Explore Layers tool.

   Type explayers and then press Enter.

   2   In the Layer Name list, select the layer you want to make current.

   3   Do one of the following:

   Choose Edit > Current.

   In the Layer Name list, select the name you want to make current, and then click the Current tool ().

   Double-click the layer name in the Layer Name list.

   Right-click the layer name you want to change, and from the shortcut menu select Current.

   4   To complete the command and return to your drawing, close the window.

To set the current layer to that of an existing entity

   1   Do one of the following to choose Set Layer By Entity ():      

   On the ribbon, choose Home > Set Layer By Entity (in Layers).

   On the menu, choose Format > Layer Tools > Set Layer By Entity.

   On the Layer Tools toolbar, click the Set Layer By Entity tool.

   Type setlayer or laymcur and then press Enter.

   2   Select the entity to set the current layer.    

Use the command bar.
In the command bar, type LAYBYENT and choose Set, then select an entity that is assigned the layer you want to be current.
