Subject: Saving your drawings automatically

CADdirect">To avoid losing data in the event of a power failure or other system error, save your drawing files often. You also can configure the program to periodically save your drawings automatically. The minutes setting determines the interval between automatic saves. The program restarts this interval timer whenever you save the drawing file.

When autosave is enabled, the program creates a copy of your drawing. The file is saved in the folder specified in Options > Paths/Files for Temporary Files, with the file extension specified in the File Extension box (by default, .SV$).

To set how drawings are saved automatically

1   Do one of the following to choose Options ():

On the ribbon, choose the Application button then choose Options, or choose Tools > Options (in Manage).

On the menu, choose Tools > Options.

Type options and then press Enter.

   2   Click the General tab.

3   To save your drawings automatically, do the following:

   Mark Autosave Drawing.

In Minutes, enter the frequency that you want to save drawings. Do not use too brief a time if you often work with large drawings, because it can take a minute or more to save a very large drawing.

If you want to change the default extension assigned to autosave files, type the new extension in File Extension.

4   To save an older version of drawings with a .bak file extension every time a drawing is saved, mark Back Up to BAK File when Saving Drawings.

5   In When Drawings Close, choose how to treat autosave and backup files when the program or drawings close.

6   When you have finished, click OK.
